Just picked up one of these

for £679! biggrin

It's a Panasonic TX-P42S10, full 1080p and all that guff. I've also sold my old screen for £200 and had £150 in vouchers, so my new screen's only cost me £329. Not a bad afternoon's work if I'm honest. hehe

ETA: ...and my new 24" Dell monitor arrived today too, so I have to set about swapping the screens on the computer over later too. It's been a bit of a 'tech' afternoon..!

And for £70 more (depending on where you bought it from) you could've had the 42G10, which is the better telly, not to mention having FreeSat in-bult.

Nope, the G10 came in at around £900 (although I may have been able to haggle them). I don't need FreeSat (I have Sky) and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 400Hz and 600Hz.

There's ALWAYS the '...for 'x' more you could have...' This set suits my needs and I got it a good £120 cheaper than most places have it advertised for.

Thanks for the positive comments though.

If the OP wanted a debate, the title would not have been:

It would have been:

Okay then, let's turn it about face, and say you could've saved even more and went with the 42X10, since the likelihood is you're not going to be sitting close enough to appreciate the extra resolution, and that assumes you'll be putting a B-R movie through the set.
If not, then there's even less reason for going for the poverty spec Full HD S10.
Still, if you're as happy as a happy camper from Happyville, then anything anyone says is immaterial.

You bought a Honda Accord saloon - for the same price you could have got a Caterham.

Twit.

Even if you have paid over the odds for it, which I doubt, that 24" Dell is bargain-tastic. Got one coming next week smile

They need to be transported upright so I didn't even try. Given that it is going up a couple of flights of stairs, I wouldn't have been able to do it by myself so the delivery chaps will do all the hard work for me tomorrow.. hehe

Beg to differ G, you're the twit for ASSuming I bought it from new!
Also, please don't go putting words in my mouth - I never said the OP's choice of TV was "crap", rather pointed out a better alternative may have been had for not much more.
I'm sure I could have had a better alternative to the Accord, but a Caterham most definitely isn't it.
Enjoy that double helping of humble pie - but can I suggest you remove your foot from your mouth first.

For crying out loud, it's a 'happy' thread - how the hell has it managed to descend into bhing in so few posts?

I have a new TV coming that I've worked hard for, got a good deal on and I'm pleased.

So fk you. wink

Hope the TV is running well, Funk.

But always remember, you could have bought a used Honda Accord with the money instead smile

New screen's up and running - wow, it looks amazing.. It's also physically smaller than the old screen despite the same viewable area so it looks a little less dominating in the room.

The picture is stunning, I'm very pleased.

Is that a 226BW on the right? I'm curious to see how it compares, as I'm beginning to think it's a bit rubbish in some areas.

Yes it is.

I always found my Eizo 19" (the one now on the left) outperformed the Samsung. The Dell one seems to look better than both. However, that's not to say it's a slouch, but I prefer the brighter, crisper look of the newer monitor.
