Quick question...

Going to be moving in with the in-laws for a bit while we sort a place to live, who don't have Sky. If I cancel my subscription to Sky (I don't know how long we'll be without our own place), will I still be able to watch stuff I've already recorded, or does the Sky box require a valid, active subscription in order for recordings to be viewed?

Same question as well with Anytime downloads.

Thanks

AFAIK you wont be able to use the recordings after payment finishes. You can however carry on with Sky plus for a tenner a month

But then, wouldn't it need to be connected to a dual feed dish?

Yeah, that was my point. It won't be connected to a Sky dish for a month or two, so I just wondered if anything I record in the next couple of weeks will be available to watch while I'm staying with the outlaws.

I have no idea, but you can find out, unplug both of your dish leads and see if you can play anything back.

Just to follow up on this...

Moved in with the missus' parents last weekend. Setup the TV/Sky box (although obviously not connect to a Sky feed or phone line) - all my recordings were there on the Friday (the day I told Sky I would no longer be at my old address) but were all gone on the Saturday, presumably wiped by Sky remotely?

How on earth did they do this - did you have the box connected...?

I've been decorating and our box (which has NEVER been connected to the phone line) was unplugged for over a week.

Turned back on last night, it immediately picked up series link records and all the old stuff was still there...

Would love to know how yours was wiped..?

Just seen this. I've not had a telephone line connected for years, yet still I call up and order box office boxing etc, they say "just a second, i'll send a signal to your box" and tadaa, I have box office.

A colleague here recorded loads of films during Christmas, then cancelled their movie subscription, they went to view the films afterwards and they were unable to watch them. I presume there will be a 'hack' somewhere to sort this, but I guess Sky have it sussed.

Just for info about sending signals down to the box, I had Sky+ installed on Saturday (no phone line as Sky are sorting that as well), and to activate the box they had to send a signal to it. Before it was activated, I was only getting basic channels and Sky+ features did not work. After I gave her the card details, almost the split second she pressed the enter key, the box suddenly burst into life.

So I guess they can enable and disable Sky+ via the satellite without having a phone line to the box from that.

The programs are recorded in a 'scrambled' state and need an active card to descramble them as they are played back, as for the box office that is activated by them sending a signal to your card via the satellite, it has nothing todo with the phone line.
But having no dish or phone connected, i cant see how they can delete your programms..funny one that.
