2.1 speakers or amp and bookshelf speakers?

My dolby 2.1 speakers have died recently. They are attached to me PC. The question is, do I replace them with an Amp and a decent set of bookshelf speakers (which I can move to a different location in a few years, when I move out of my parents house), or a new set of 2.1 / 5.1 speakers?

Help me out please!
