Calling all experts.

For the benifit of all those in the mkt for a 50/55in TV like me i have put this up.

Saw all the above side by side today. The plasmas at 600htz dont look as good as the 100htz lcd's. No idea why (maybe setup?).... Im no expert tho.

Having seen the Samsung LE55B651T i like that. Can the experts post up a few pros/cons pls. Massively appreciated as these things aren’t cheap!!! smile

Viewing distance say 10/11ft.

MANY THANKS

Spend the extra and get a Pioneer 5090 whilst you still can.

The only other consideration at that size is something from the Panasonic line.

Were you watching the same thing on both sets on the same feed?

Was it SD or HD?

Were both sets optimised equally?

Was the set you're suggesting looked much brighter a Samsung in shop mode with everything turned up to 11?

Panny V10 instead of G10 for your budget spread - can be had for under the lower amount.
As Plotloss says, if you can find and afford the Pioneer 5090, it's worth doing so, but if you "end up" with the Panny, you'll not be feeling hard done by.

The V10 is stunning but I just wish we could get more stock!

I just wish they'd ship me the one 65V10 I've been waiting for for what seems like bloody ages.

At present they've got some really good looking kit but for the past 3 months I've been inundated with extended warranty offers, free blu ray players and 'trade in' incentives but stock has been a nightmare. I've had 26X10 on order for the past 8 weeks as well as the 50V10s and keep getting dribs and drabs.
Latest reason is due to the Granada region analogue switch off taking stock...That must have been totally out of the blue!

Many LCD sets have a higher light output compared to plasma screens (which are better viewed in a darker environment), this can make the plasma seem 'duller' in a brightly lit shop. Human nature being what it is, we often tend to perceive the brighter picture as being 'better'. This is the reason that many LCD TVs (I'm sure plasmas are guilty of this as well) have horrible 'Vivid' default settings that give bluer whites and everything ramped upto maximum (as they appear brighter).

I didn't buy a plasma myself as my son used to watch CBeebies with logos all over the screen, so I knew I'd be annoyed if I suffered screen burn on my new 'toy'. However, by turning off all the 'contrast enhancements/clear white/live colour/sharpness' and other 'advanced' settings, including lowering the back light level, I find the picture quite acceptable, so I don't agree that plasma is the only option. I did notice that my friend's Panasonic plasma looked good on the (presumably) default settings, so maybe they are 'better' outof the box. However some plasmas suffer other issues such as purple flashing/spots and phosper trails, so they aren't perfect either.....just choose the one YOU like regardless of type.

The purple fringing - phosphor trails - are something that only a certain percentage notice, and tends to be with quick action stuff (movies and games predominantly).
Then again, this was more labelled at the Panasonic 6 and 7 Series, and rarely mentioned on the 8's. With the most recent 10 Series (inc. Z1 and G15) there's been no noise about it whatsoever, that I'm aware of, and this could be due to the new faster response time of the cells (pixels).

Screenburn too is practically a thing of the past, with only temporary persistent image retention remaining, and easily cured with watching another channel - but again this is something that'll not affect the majority of users of Plasma, if they've spent a bit more than 2 mins setting it up for optimal PQ, and the low contrast/brightness levels for the first 1-200 hours referred to as "breaking in", or conditioning the phosphors.
