Have ordered a new sony tv/blue-ray/home cinema today, with the little golf ball speakers, but won't be able to pick up for a couple of weeks, need to finish lounge off, fit skirtings etc. and really want to hide the speaker cable behind the skirtings.
So, need some cable, don't want anything spectacular, but want a decent spec. cable, what do you rec. and where from.
Thanx.

For that type of system I wouldnt get anything more than standard 42 strand speaker cable. Any branch of City Electrical Factors should oblige

that just comes with the standard crappy OFC cable with sony plugs on one end, you could use any low end cable with that then splice the somy plugs on when you get the system.

I don't want any low end cable, I want a half decent cable that would suit, but nothing that would be wasted on this system.
Thanx.

Its not a high end system, it dosent have big base drive units in each speaker that need high currents to drive them, it only needs low end cable, thats all it comes with because that is all it needs. B&Q would have cable that would suit you.
That isnt to say it is a bad system, not at all, if you buy cable too thick then you cant get it into the terminations just dont buy the chepest of cheap cable.

If you are going to the trouble of hiding the wiring, I'd skip 42 strand and pay the extra for 69 - it might be excessive now, but you won't need to buy again, or refit. Just go up the range and stop before anything claiming to be directional!

I'd have thought this is more than adequate: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=50

If you can hide it just use some 25A mains cable

You might be surprised how long the cables supplied are - I have a similar Sony system and the cables are more than enough to go round the lounge under the carpet gripper and with plenty to spare. Of course, this all depends how big your lounge is!

You wouldnt fit 42 strand into the speaker connector let alone 69! Its like fitting a 6 point harness into a fiesta, it just isnt needed.. but its your desision.

So are you saying that this is more than enough for the system I'm buying:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=47

I know what people are saying about future protecting, trouble is I don't have that much room this time to hide big cables, and seeing as there's going going to be more than one cable running the same route around the room I need to keep the size to a minimum.
Thanx.

that would work but personally i would call that the cheapes of the cheap, something like this would be a little overkill but would work fine and has an element of futureproofing,

13 strand at only £69 a reel.

Maplin are rapidly becoming the new PC World for optimistic pricing.

42 strand is where its at, its only a toy so no need to go mad.

they are similar spec, ive used maplin stuff in the past when we had too, seems to be a tad cheap dispite the price, i have used the CPC stuff alot and know it is good, so it gets my recomendation over similar spec stuff.
