I want to buy 'The Hunt for Red October' on Blu-ray and it's available for sale from the US, not released in the UK, and there are no plans to by the looks of it.

According to amazon.com the region is 'AC-3' which I understand means it won't play on my player, being Europe it's region 'B'.

This is a 19 year-old not very popular film. Why would they put a region on it?

If it wasn't shot in HD (Or what ever it needsd), does a Blu-ray DVD make any difference?

You will probably only watch it once anyway, buy it from under a fiver from Amazon, and save a bunch of dosh.

It was shot on film, which has a much greater resolution than 1080p!

It will have been shot on film and remastered for blu-ray.

Didnt know that, tks guys. So I assume only films after a particular year would look better in Blu ray then, ie no point converting early 40's films to Blu-ray etc if the film itself wasnt up to much in the first place?

It looks like "The Hunt For Red October" is region free, so should play back on any Blu ray player.

If you want it, all you have to do is find someone who imports it (MovieTyme, PlayUSA or Amazon for starters)

P.S. AC-3 is typically used to describe Dolby Digital audio
