I bought a Panasonic TH-50 PZ700 (I think) about 18 months ago and it's been a great tele. Problem is that of late, certain audio frequencies are causing a horrible resonance. Either one of the drivers is knackered or what I think is that there's something loose within the case that is resonating and causing this horrible din.

It happens at fairly low frequencies at virtually all volume levels bar inaudible and normally you wouldn't notice it, but right in the middle of a movie you'll suddenly get this unproportionally loud buzz emanating from the unit and it really pisses me right off.

Any ideas what it could be...? Is my tele still under any form of warranty...?

Right now I don't have any form of external amp/speakers and am not buying any surround audio gear until I move house, so switching to another output it not possible. I want to fix it not ignore it.

The tele doe sget used quite a lot. SWMBO prolly has it on 15-20h a week or so, but she doesn't have it on loud enough to knacker anything I wouldn't have thought. Tele has never been moved since I installed it so it's not been damaged in any way. The only thing it's had done is stuff plugged into it and been dusted down.

Any pointers appreciated.

Something loose in the case which is being exposed by the frequencies the woofer unit generates, probably.

My thoughts exactly. I don't fancy pulling the back off the tele myself, especially if it's under warranty, but I have no idea what a Panasonic warranty will cover and for how long. Any ideas...?

Worst case scenario, I can bash it with a rubber mallet 'til it stops hehe

It wil be out of warantee unless you bough a longer one when you got the TV, standard warantee is 1 year. Pana did an extended warantee on the 70 not to sure abour the 700 but you will know if you got one because you will have filled out the extra paperwork then posted it back to panasonic yourself, if you didnt then you havent got it wink
Basically your TV is faulty, by the looks of it your gunna have to pay for a repair.

No, I didn't take out any extended warranty. Sod paying for fixing it. It's probably cheaper to buy a new one here in CH. I'll get my screwdrivers out...

The 700 is a good TV m8, especially the audio, if you are up for it then have a look yourself obviously unplugging it first and NOT touching anything electronic inside.

You can leave it attached to the stand to take tha back off but the stand screws the pass throught the TV into the stand upright have to come out along with the other rear cab screws, keep a note of what came from where, some are self tappers and some metric threads and there are some countersunk ones around the scarts (if i remember correctly).

As for the fault its unlikely the drivers have gone as the audio in that set is pretty good, it could just be a wiring loom clamp sticky pad has lost its stick, your looking for something that has come adrift or someithing hard near a piece of chassis, alot of the time taking the back off and putting it back on fixes tis type fault, just dont go prodding around in there, you can break it very easily.

edited for some very poor typing
