I know this has probably been done to death, but, It's nearly time to start looking for our new tv/home cinema package, it's going on the wall with cables ducted to the rest of the equipment tucked away in the corner.
Room size is 6Mx3.5M, with the tv going on the wall across the smallest size, so, what size screen do you think, what make, lcd or plasma, and lastly, would really like to get a complete package from one manufacturer, TV/Blue-ray/Cinema system.
Budget is around 2K, and would also like the golf ball type speakers that sony do.
Thanx.

Panasonic 50G10, BT200 - all well within budget.
Going for broke (a little) - same TV, Gallo Adiva System, Pioneer/Panasonic/Onkyo/Yamaha AV Control Centre/Amplifier. With that you're looking probably nearer the £2800 minimum, but you should get something better than the Sony "golf balls" system.

How far into the room will the sofa be, or is it to be glued to the back wall?
Anything more than 6-7' from the TV with B-R movies playing, and you're not going to see the difference over a standard DVD of the same movie.
To a bigger degree, it could be argued there's no point in going for the G10, you'd be better off with the X10, saving £2-300 ish.

I think 50" is a bit big for a room this size, was thinking more 42".
Also, what is best, plasma/lcd. Don't play a lot of games, mainly for watching discs and tv, do like sports though.
A lot of talk about Hz, what's the best to go for.

Not when you're sitting (presumably from the dimensions given) 18-20 feet from the TV, unless I've misunderstood the positioning of the TV in your opening post.
Plasma TV still eclipses LCD in all PQ areas, with only glare/viewer reflection, and ultimate brightness in a sun-filled room being their downside.
On the X10, you'll get 100Hz technology, which is more a marketing thing than producing tangible improvement - so don't get hung up on it.
With the 600Hz of the G and V10, then it probably is worth having.

The tv will be across the smallest size of room, so no more than 9 ft away.

Ah......!
Well, you're just on the cusp of the 50G10 with B-R movies, but sticking to budget, then as Plotloss suggests, dropping down to the 42X10 saves a fair bit to leave the Gallos as definite.
