We've been with Virgin Media for about 3 years (two years in this house) and were making use of their 3 for £30 deal (XL TV, Phone & Broadband) with an extra set top box upstairs.

Typically this bill has been sneaking every upwards over the years and the last few months have been around the £47 month (including hiring a film from their service).

This morning I received this letter from them (dated yesterday):

Dear Mr Manson,

We have recently been making some improvements to the way we look after your bills. While we were working on these changes, we noticed that you haven't been charged for your telephone service.

Our team has corrected the problem, so from now on you'll be paying the correct amount for your telephone service. When your next bill drops through your door, take a look and you'll see the correct cost.

And just so you know, as this was our mistake, we won't ask you to pay the difference. We'll just make sure that we take the right amount from your next bill onwards.

Yours sincerely.

Now to say this pcensoredd me off is an understatment, so I rang them and spoke to their cancellations team and from now on our package will be £49 p/month for the base service instead of the £34 we originally paid. There is nothing new or added to the service - in fact we get less as we now get online billing etc.

Considering I spoke to them a couple of months ago and they confirmed all the services I had and was paying for i'm now livid.

We rarely use the phoneline (incoming calls mainly) but do make use of the V+ service and basic broadband and we don't have Sky movies/sports.

I threatened to leave and they've offered it to us for £39 (or £34 if we drop the box upstairs). If we went to Sky we would need the Sky HD box as everything is wired into my amp via HDMI.

If you move to sky then yes you do need the sky box, the HD sky box has an HDMI output but it only outputs 2 channel sound through it, for 5.1 you need to connect an optical also, so you need to make sure than on your amp you can re map the audio from the HDMI input to one of its optical inputs instead.

I'm quite knarked at how Virgin price their packages, we have their broadband at £14 a month and I'm seriously thinking about getting a digital TV link from them too as our standard signal is awful in Plymouth and we've just invested in a fancy LCD 32".

But even for just their basic TV it'll jump to £30 odd quid I think, of course if you get their phone line too it's actually less I guess they reckon they'll make up the extra with call charges. Thinking about just getting the triple package and not plugging in a phone!
