I'm currently trawling ebay for a CD player to replace my old Marantz CD-53, which sadly departed this earth the other weekend.

For around the 100 squid mark I can get something that was £250-300 a couple of years ago, or I can get something that was like £500-750 from the 90's.

To put it bluntly, which is the better bet?

Lok for a Cyrus CD6 on ebay or if that's too expensive, an older Cyrus model.

They seem to go for £200+ which is more than I want to spend really, was looking at a Nad 521i or CA Azur 540/640... but how would they stack up to something ancient that was once the daddy?

You could try an old Rega Planet, they're alright for a hundred or so quid on ebay

Well I ended up getting a Cambridge Audio 640c, for £97. Picking it up tomorrow. Wouldn't have wanted to pay any more than that for an ebay one cause Richer Sounds had a newer one for £150, with 12 months guarentee.

Currently agonising over what the first track will be - think the neighbours will stomach one or two when I get back smile

PS - Anyone want an old CD-53 that doesn't spin the discs up? The laser hunts in & out but the disc remains sadly stationary. We had some good times together, the bin doesn't seem fitting.

sell on ebay as spares or repair? It's dead easy to change a mech, so you never know..
