i have a 42" samsung, and a pioneer dcs 370 surround sound setup.

if i was to buy an amp, could i amplify the system?
how do they wire up?

is it sound out from dcs370 unit into amp then sound out from the amp to speakers and sub.

im confused over sound out as my speakers have funny terminals which wouldnt fit into most amp backs.

any advice is appreciated

basically i want to slowly get a good sound from my dvd watching, good bass/treble and surround etc. i know that my pionner setup probably wont be able to be amplified (if it can it would only be marginal probably)

This is the trouble with one box systems, propritary connectors.

Basically if you want to amplify freeview then you just run a set of stereo RCAs (red and white) from the television to the amplifier (which should have at least one set of stereo inputs)

i have sky+ howver my current one box thing does not take optical input.

what would you advise i do then. i want to slowly build a nice system. im happy with the pioneer for ticking over at the mo. and am happy to save for an amp and some nice speakers. I dont want small speakers, i like tall boys, or floor standing/mounted ones. i dont mind 2nd hand gear either

i have a new lounge to sort out so want some warmth to the sound. and to wow my mates when we watch a dvd.

Does the pioneer thingy have a digital coaxial (SPDIF) input?

If so you can get boxes which convert TOSLink to SPDIF

A single RCA (Phono as they're sometimes known) thats orange in colour.

It will be labelled either Digital Input or SPDIF Input or similar.
