HI,
I am after a new 37" flat screen tv of around 37". I have been reading other forums and mags and it is making me even more confused. I have a budget of £550. I was thinking that LCD was the way to go until I read some more about plasma last night.
Can anyone shed some light please. LCD v Plasma and recommendations please.

Cheers
Rich

upto 40" id go 4 lcd anything bigger go plasma, and u cant go far wrong wi panasonic bt atm tesco av got the 1080p s10 series for the same price as the 'entry level' x10. think they either 550 or 600 bt the s10 looks loads better, x10 is a bit dark at 37"

I went through the same dilemma last year, it took me ages to decide.

After reading all the magazines and specs I decided I loved everything about LCD (eg 40" Sony) as they were full 1080p, lots of toys, sharp picture, suitable for use as a pc monitor etc.

But when it came down to it, I found the picture was eye-wateringly painful to watch tv in the evening in the dark, regardless of the setting used and regardless of whether I watched SD or HD. You could marvel at the detail and the versatility, but I didn't enjoy watching it for long periods.

I would have been happy to spend up to £1500 but I settled on the 37" Panasonic Plasma for £600 as it has a beautiful picture for watching SD or HD. It might be 'only' 720p but HD looks fantastic on it, so I feel I've settled for the best (for me) at that size.

I have a 37" LCD Toshiba which is superb. Why buy plasma when its older technology?

Because its significantly better at displaying colours, contrast and with moving images - the last point being especially handy in video reproduction.

LCD having trouble displaying moving images used to be a problem when they first came out but it isnt the case anymore.

Its got better certainly but Plasma still handles motion significantly better than LCD.

LCD loses a huge amount of its headline resolution as soon as the picture gets refreshed.

LCD doesn't resolve more than 600 odd lines of a 1080p source feed, whereas Plasma (and Panasonic in particular) was doing 900 in the previous gen panels, and with the new 600Hz technology, is resolving the full 1080.
Easily discernible with football or other medium quick panning shots, and the electronic advertising hoardings around the pitch.

i gotta say Panny plasma. My parent have last years 37px80 & friends have this years TX-P37X10B. The pannys have great upscalers, so standard definition material looks good too. Unlike like LCD TV's the colour does not pale when watching from an angle.
