Hi ,
I have just bought a cheap LCD for the kitchen. when I turned it on there is a little 'bright' pixel on the screen. Will this go away with use or should I take it back, a mate says it will 'settle' down? i have never heard of this before?

cheers
Rich

Massage the area, sometimes they can become "stuck".
That should sort it out.

Ive seen many with dead pixels and there is a disclaimer usually in the handbook saying that x amount is acceptable, usually before they go dead then get lodged hard on like you describe, now this isnt covered under a disclaimer so you can take it back, just tell them that it makes the picture unwatchable. You have just bought it so if they wont change it the just tell them you are totally unhappy with the product and ask for a refund. (most places are now fed up arguing the toss over theses issues as the customers always win so they usualy just swap out now)

:yeah: It's fairly common with LCDs, they say a few 'dead' pixels is acceptable too.. annoying.

it seems to be one pixel, that is not too noticable, is it worth going back or do you think that a replacement is likely to have the same problem?

How do you imagine? Place a finger on the stuck pixel, and rub in a circular motion with light-medium pressure.
As said above, manufacturers tend to have some disclaimer about quantity of dead/stuck pixels that's deemed acceptable - but then your contract is not with them, but the place where you purchased it from, so don't bother contacting the manufacturer unless as a very last resort.

Standard spec used to be no more than 3 dead pixels within a 1cm area. May vary with each manufacturer. I expect if you bought it from a shed type store they wont argue and just replace it.

I know that we have replaced many a screen because of 1 dead pixel, the disclaimer used in the instruction books is just plain stupid, if there was 1 dead pixel in a place where it wouldnt be noticed and indeed hasnt been noticed then this is exceptable becaue you dont even know it is there! in my mind if there is a dead pixel anyware on the screen that you can see then this is unacceptable.
I think they have a cheek putting that in there 'Because we really didnt make your screen properly it may have defects, if you notice these defects then we deem it to be acceptable' I mean WTF?? Its quite laughable really.

it was right in the middle and totally noticeable when the picture was dark there. I massaged the area and then played with the settings and it has now gone..

thanks for everyone's help.
