DVD+RW Troubles

Hope this is in the right place, need a bit of advice about DVD+RW.

In a nutshell I had a good video recorder for ten years which was used to record stuff on a regular basis and I only went through a dozen or so tapes in that time. Which I thought was very impressive although the quality of picture was poor by modern standards.
I now have a Panasonic DVD recorder which is used on a semi regular basis and my Tesco DVD+RW disks have expired after about 8 months of use.
Is it usual for cheap DVD+RW disks to last such a short time ?
I have bought new Philips disks as a replacement, are they any better ?

Yup, buy propper ones I have 2 panasonic recorders and i only use RAM disks in both of them, i still have my original ones from 4 years ago and they are still going strong

Thanks for the heads up, I'm no luddit but ive never heard of these before. From the reviews on amazon I'm gonna have to get some.
