Just been arranging all my cables and leads so that they are chased into the wall, now that the TV is hung on the wall. Now there are no unsightly cables on show.
However, at the moment, the telephone point is on the opposite wall to the TV, meaning the cable from phone socket to the SKY + box was fking everything up by running across the room.
So i unplugged it at both ends. Nothing exploded or stopped working, all channles, including the HD ones.
So, can I leave it unplugged, or will something go wrong?
I really dont want to speak to SKY on the phone with this, as I hate them.
Cheers
NTO

You don't have to plug the phone cable in (although some contracts insist on it). The phone cable is there for you to be able to purchase films and for other Sky interactive products.

No pornos for you then. smile

Sky demand the phone cable plugged in for the first year of a new contract, thereafter you don't need it. It's not JUST for PPV and ordering films, they can also can log the number via CLI. It's a prevention for multi room to become multi country, people with a box in the UK and France for instance.

We had sky send a fair few letters regarding termination of contracts as we didn't plug it in for a few months.

You can purchase a contract "off plan", which is effectively a second hand contract, therefore avoiding the initial 1 year contract terms.

Why do they care so much about Multi-Country? I mean if people are willing to pay then why are they so bothered?

Ah, because multi room mirrors your subscription for only an additional £10/month, but the terms are they must both be in the same house. So you taking your second sky box to France isn't in the same house now is it?

They want you to sign up for an other contract (even though sky don't officially support outside of the UK).

The same works for you and a mate getting multi room, and using it as multi town...

Thats why they ask for the phone line to be connected, as it will make random (once a month) outgoing calls. They see a french number, you're done. Out of 1st year its fine, but not allowed in the T&C's.

No, that's done by embedding the request into the broadcast TV signal. The phone line on the Sky box is outgoing only.
