I've just bought some land to build my own property and i'm thinking of building the new house with a cellar. One of the ideas of the cellar is to have a home cinema installed but i've been looking at prices and installation costs seem to be £40k and over.

Personally i was thinking a max of £10k but would prefer to deal with a company that knows what they're doing.

Can anyone give me some good ideas where to start looking or maybe some firms to have a chat with.

Cheers

Talk to Plotloss on here, his company does this. The amount you can spend is virtually limitless.

Nothing to add on this, but will you be doing a build thread?

I might start one in a few weeks.

Depends on what you're looking for essentially.

If you're going to have a dedicated media/screening room then given the opportunity cost of the floor space and what it can be used for other than a cinema then its worth doing it right primarily from an acoustic perspective and secondarily through equipment choice.

Whereabouts are you in the country?

If you're down South then I'd be more than willing to look through your requirements and take you to see some example setups at various price points so you can see what is available.

Right, well im in the West Midlands, about a hour north from Bristol.

The idea is to create the cellar for me basically, so i'll have a Games Room with steps leading up to the rear of the garden and a dedicated Home Cinema room plus store room and toilet . I was thinking of having a Home Cinema room around 20ft by 25ft but this can be changed to suit.

I have not got planning permission for the cellar as yet so this is all up in the air at the moment. I would imagine the cellar layout will have to take into account the foundations of the house but as you can see i'm just at the starting stage of this build.

Slightly off topic, but for the basement, have you looked at Beco blocks?

You can just about see them in the picture below.

Really easy and quick to use. Not sure about the cost, though.
