Hi all,

Having just moved and our sofa is now twice the distance away from the telly, I thought we'd look at upgrading it.

I'd like to stay with Sony LCD's as we've had a 40" V series for a while and been very happy.

Anyone had any experience with the 52" Sonys?
One thing I thought was a little odd - is that the Z series has got a 'great' built in sound including subwoofer.

Now, I may be wrong - but someone dropping a couple of grand on a telly is likely to have a good system to run the sound through?

Bearing that in mind, does anyone have any recommedations for TVs of the same size (I could be swayed on Plasma if it was exceptional) or larger for the same sort of money that focuses on teh picture and not the sound.

Thanks in advance.

New distance?
Material viewed on the telly, now and foreseeable future?
Will you be investing in separate audio for more of a Home Cinema feel/set-up or are built-in speakers still mandatory?
Realistic budget?

Distance is approx 4.5 metres (Can't find the tape measure - in one of a million boxes at the moment).
Films - BluRays mostly. The wife will watch Dr. Phil and her usual dross from the sat feed which is low quality out here so the films are the priority. I have a separate room, study, for gaming and sports - already have a telly for that.
Have a handy set up for Audio so no probs there, hence the qustioning of the audio built in to the telly as I'd assume that most buying a telly like that would have at least a basic 5.1 system.
Budget not an issue as such but keeping to around 2k (GBP) would seem reasonable.

At 15ft, you're not likely to be making much use of the Full HD resolution available from your B-R discs, and the larger Full HD panels will generally exacerbate the low bandwith of SD resolution on some/most channels, on anything below 60-65".
Unfortunately, Panny don't do a 65" version of their new TV's, so you're slightly snookered there, as Plasma will make watching movies and general TV more enjoyable for a variety of reasons.
The only problem there is, is that none of the large screens fall into budget, with the slight exception of the previous model - 58PZ800, which can be had for under£2100, but as good a TV as it is, it's been surpassed with the new ones.

Of course, a 50V10 will work just grand, but you won't benefit from the additional resolution over 720 standard HD.
If you could delve deeper into the pockets (to the tune of £3K), then the Pioneer 6090 becomes a reality, and that would be worth grabbing before they're gone.

If you can sit tight for a while, assuming the Pioneer is not a reality, then it might be worth hanging on until Sept, to see what other sizes and models Panasonic release here, but judging from their advanced US website, there's not much happening on the larger formats in regular HD, but it is interesting to note, the 58PZ800 can be had for $1800 plus a $400 rebate, iirc online!

Thank you for the reply. Very informative.

Budget is flexible so I'll have a look at the larger plasmas along with those you have mentioned.
