Just a quick question, do you need a BT landline before you can have Sky TV?

We have a Post Office landline. If it needs changing, how much could it cost to switch over? Cheers, Dave

I think you just need a telephone line of some kind, so the box can "phone home" occasionally ... guess it doesnt need to be BT as such

(p.s. just looked at "the lounge" and 1/2 the threads have been moved (like this one) to obscure areas, FFS mods, bl***y stop it !)

Yes, you will need a "BT" line for Sky to work - they can take over the PO one you've got, if you switch to Sky Talk and/or Broadband.
They can't use an already existing cable installed line.

If you need a phone line, how come ours is fine in 3 rooms when there was no phone line in service when it was installed?

No, you don't. You only need a phone line if you are getting the box for free as part of the contract or if you want to want to use the interactive services, or PPV etc.

I have never had any of my sky boxes connected to my phone line, nor will I, and they have always worked just fine.

The answer to the question is: It depends what you want from Sky.
