hi,

im looking at getting anew av amp at the moment the two im considering are the

Harman Kardon AVR355 @ 399

or

Onkyo TXSR607 @ 499

does any body have any other thoughts? or a direct comparison review of the two of them the onkyo has more hdmi ports witch looks good but the HK started out at a much hire price point so looks like more of a bargen

The onkyo isn't as pretty.. but it sounds superb.

Onkyo 607 for me, though be careful with all the HDMI ports as they are not all the same.

There are a few to choose from in Richer Sounds (I'm starting to sound like an RS advert these days, even though most of my gear has come from Audio-T):

This Sony is well thought of and has 4 HDMI inputs at £230:

Or this Denon 2309 in black for £450:

I bought one of these last year for £399 on an RS 'VIP' deal but they still sell them now only £100 more. Only 2 HDMIs (I had an external HDMI switch so it didn't matter), depends if you like silver as well:

How about the highly respected Onyko TXSR805 for £499 on Audio-T's clearance page (amongst other bargains there too):

Be aware that the Onyko amps have a reputation for hot running, so allow plenty of space around it if you get one.

Indeed! You could fry and egg on my Onkyo!!!

Still a great performer and easy to use/setup.

We have 2 Onkyos - a lower spec one that I have in my study (the model escapes me as it's a few years old) and a S875 in the lounge.

Very happy with both - the S875 (current model is the S876) is excellent. The self calibration system is good and pretty accurate unless you want to get anal by getting out the tape measure etc...

It does run hot but provided it has some breathing space, as mine has, you shouldn't have any issues.

I'll take a piccy later to show how much mine is but I think a 3 or 4 inches is perfectly good enough. I'm actualy quite lucky that my placve has AC going all the time so there's good air movement anyway.

Yamaha have just launched the RXV765 @ £549ish. Set one up Yesterday with some
KEF KHT2005/3 speakers, and I don't think i've heard an amp sound this good at its
price. Seek out a Demo it's got a nicer sound with music than the Onkyo
