Hi,

I'm looking to dedicate a room in my house to a home cinema, I already have the surround sound system that will fuel the soundy bit of this for a while (it will be upgraded though) but looking for a big HD TV that will display various media feeds well.

I know that most are excellent with HD content but when you start throwing SD or Terrestrial content at them that can suffer quite badly. I have quite a large collection of DVDs that I want to continue to watch without having to buy them on Blu Ray and unsure about whether to get a HD TV that can handle SD content well or fork out for a decent HDMI equipped DVD upscaler.

I have a budget of upto £1300 for the telly and would prefer a plasma over an LCD, screen size 46"-50" for 11' square setup in a room that is 17'x11'

Feeds will be

DVD (obviously)
XBOX 360(upgrading to an XBOX Elite which is HDMI Equipped)
PS3 (for Blu Ray playback)
Wii
Computer (binning off my current setup with monitor etc. and plugging the base unit direct into the Plasma with wifi keyboard and mouse). DVI-D or VGA

Any help choosing a decent screen from those in the know who may have gone through a similar process much appreciated.

Cheers

Sean

I've been scouring through numerous av forums over the last month or so with almost the same criteria as yourself. I went over to Bolton on Tuesday to have a look at the Pioneer plamas on sale at Sound & Vision there. To my untrained eye, I couldn't tell the difference between the top of the affordable range S10, or the entry level x10 displays. They all looked pretty good. I was thinking of buying a 37 or 42", but I've seen the entry level x10 panasonic that is 1080i only and 50" for just over £800 and thinking that could do the trick smile
For your budget, you've really got a lot of sets to choose from, and the general advice atm is buy a panny plasma smile

+1 or the 46"

I got one about 1 month ago and am very pleased with it. I have a Denon upscaling DVD player (1080p) and Sky+ HD and the quality of both is stunning.

The native DTV varies from good down to 'watchable' depending on the broadcast bitrate I guess but its still better than I've seen on any other set.

Thanks for the help guys, I went and bugged someone in my local currys that had the panny 50 incher on display and they hooked freesat blu ray and other sources up for me to view.

Very happy with what I saw so i'll be making a trip over to Bolton in the next week or so to get me a nice new big telly.

Thanks again.
