Hi!
I know this question has probably been asked loads recently but was wondering what the opinion is on the new panasonic plasmas.
I was considering getting one of the 50 inch pioneers before they run out as i've heard they are the best, but wanted to ask if the new panasonics are going to be as good?
I've got Virgin so won't be able to get many HD channels, so majority of viewing will be SD for the time being. Sky is not an option as i live in an apartment.
So, should i get the pioneer or look at something else?

Cheers!

p.s. If the pioneer is still the best option, does anyone know the best place to get one (saw one in PC World today of all places, £1999)?

The V series Panasonics run them very close but the Pioneer still *just* has the edge.

Pioneer for me too, though I was oh-so-tempted by a panny yesterday and may cave in on account they're easier to findsmile

The Pioneer is still my choice - we have the V series here and good as it is the Pioneer is still a better panel IMO. Stock is still available although you will probably have a bit of a wait. Visit your local specialist before the end of the month and you will get a five year warranty as well.

I still reckon that the average person would struggle to notice the difference, unless they had it pointed out in a side by side test under controlled conditions

so likely that if you get a latest Panny, take it home and get it set-up properly, youd be very happy with it...and save £500 or £1000 in the process ....as with anything, its laws of diminishing returns, and Pioneer made sure did make "the best" panels, but at such a price premium that it wasnt a viable business for them, as only a few percent of buyers were actually bothered frown

I saw a 68" Plasma for about £4000 in Comet the other day....unbelievable.

Do they get any bigger or more expensive than that?

They also make a 150" plasma ( http://gizmodo.com/341909/panasonic-150+inch-plasm... ) but I couldn't find one for sale anywhere...

I have a 128" screen and it cost way less than that.....

....maybe cheating though as I have a projector. biggrin I'd say go for the Panasonic unless you are a really picky about picture quality, friend of mine got one and even on the out of the box settings (he wouldn't let me adjust it wink) it looked surprisingly good in a home setting.

Part of the purchase process includes a structural engineer report on where its going to be sited, either wall mount or on a pedestal.

theres some pics somewhere of some bloke getting one delivered into his docklands flat....by a huge crane !

I think the small installation fee for a team of blokes and crane, is built into the price by the distriubutors smile

I wouldn't let you adjust it 'cos we would have been there all night and wouldn't have got to the pub tongue out

Seriously though I am very happy with my panasonic the colours are good and the blacks are very black if you get my drift. Being a typical tight arse yorkshireman I did a lot of shopping around and comparing make for make and preferred the panasonic over the pioneer and sony and ...

Its not.

You pay seperately for the panel, the pedestal or wall mount and the survey.

Installation is extra.

But if you're interested I'm sure we can come to an arrangement wink

I've seen the 103" in action over here and even up close it was impressive! Can't imagine what the 150" would be like in a house!

Pioneer all the way - I've had them for the past 6 years.

Bloody shame they pulled out of the plasma market sector.
