Don't know but I saw an LED one in Tesco for £1599 the other day and was utterly blown away, I'd be seriously tempted if I was you and could get a good deal online.

Easy just have a look at the new Panasonic TX-P42V10
It batters every LCD (LED Backlighting Edge or not) into
total submission!!

Just stunning!!

It's a true successor to the much missed Pioneer 428XD

I got a 37" inch Panny last year - pretty much the budget unit - it's very very good. I heard Pioneer have stopped making flatscreen TVs.

So recommended by two people now - Is there really no other options?

There might be: nobody will second this because it is to picture quality what the Bristol Fighter S is to breezing past 200 mph...esoteric.

This monitor only screen from JVC - model no. LT-42WX70 - iirc, comes with a super slim speaker bar undermounted but will not (as originally pondered) arrive with an optional media box which tbh, is a bit of a bugger but with so many 'off board' primary sources (e.g. Sky [HD] and Blu-ray) then in some ways this minimalist approach seems to reprise the classical Sony Profeel mantra of yore: semi-pro, if you like.

I've mentioned this before but the bods at manufacturer HQ are frothing quite animatedly o'er this one: whilst it is already being romanced by the high end photographic lobby, engineers are quick and enthusiastic to point out the motion video capabilities and the usual gamut of variables which affect picture quality are being discussed in terms sufficient to at least match or outclass most, if not all comers, from the highest echelons of current and recent plasma endeavour.

Certainly, when you optimise an LT-42DV1 (JVC's current, regular set) and stand it toe-to-toe with frankly, anything (equally set up) and assume a meaningful viewing distance, I am certainly known to stop, literally, every time I pass it, turn on my heels and comment on the sheer vibrancy of what's at hand. Subjectively, it is by far the best 42" LCD out there and with high quality SD signals blissfully ameliorative of the cack which afflicts 95% of these things.

Now anyone recommend where to buy, I obviously want it as cheap as possible with the panny 5 year warranty. I am based in West Sussex

Couple of hundred probably!
Answer can be found on www.panasonic.co.uk, and select the two sets to compare.
You'll be able to see the differences more clearly then.
