Advice required

I know nothing about audio/ visual technology but I was hoping that someone could give me advice. I used to have a home cinema system but I got rid of it a while ago because of all the cable etc. I now have a nice 42" TV with a vogels shelf system underneath for a dvd player and a sky+ box. What I was ideally looking for was one item that would play dvds and maybe blu-ray with an ipod connection to play my music and I would be looking to buy a couple of floor standing speakers for the sound.
