Is the Philips HTS8140 any good? Want something minimalist (ie not loads of speakers etc) and this seems to tick the box.

Assuming you have a fairly square room, the Yamaha YSP600 soundbar will create some impressive surround sound effects for about £300.00. It is compatible with every DOLBY format. It also has F/O audio interface. The soundbar must be used with a bass box to achieve good movie sound effects. If you have a large room, you must spend around £150.00 on the bass box and £100.00 if you have a smaller room.

A used Yamaha will be a better proposition - they come up every now and again on AVForums and similar.
