Anyone know where I can get hold of some test patterns to setup & calibrate the contrast/brightness/sharpness etc on my Panny TXP46G10?

I.e. Something that will help me do this - http://www.avforums.com/forums/avforums-video-prod...

Ideally gif files I can put on an SD card, or even an instructional DVD would be nice.

Amazon - the DVD is called "DVD essentials" I think and has instructions and every test patter you need to set up your home cinema

I'm fairly sure that THX dvd's include something to help setup your tv, the incredibles is one that springs to mind.

Star Wars!

It is an easter egg on some versions and in the setup section of the rest.

Another vote for DVD essentials. Been using that for years to tweak mine and other peoples systems. Used with a sound level meter, it makes all the difference to your setup.

I use this on the job for stereo beamer convergence :
http://majorgeeks.com/Nokia_Monitor_Test_d960.html

has geometrical pattern, contrast, etc etc.
Only works on 32 bit, not 64.

I used that one and it worked fine. Thanks.

All THX Certified titles have the THX Optimizer [sic] on them.

Its worthwhile getting an ISF specialist in if you want the best possible performance from your panel in your lighting conditions.

If you have access to BBC HD you will find video and audio set up facilities broadcast throughout the day as part of the promo loop. A copy of the test card can be found here:

If you had ever told me when I was looking at that kids face and the clown back in 1987 that 20 years later it would be in a magical thing called HD and it would be on a 5 foot wide flat screen on may wall I would have laughed at you!

Could they not get a better picture for the new test card...!? smile

Not to mention proper 16:9 widecreen, not the 4:3 version the US uses.

If you have a DVD burner and a BluRay player that can play AVCHD formats there is a free disc to download on AVSForums. There are various versions to download that can be put onto an SD card or direct to your PC's hard disc. I used this disc to do a full greyscale and colour gamut calibration myself using an Eye-one LT probe and some free software (HFCR) on my TV and my JVC projector. It can also be used to setup TVs/PJs by eye (at least the basic brightness, contrast and colour decoder settings).
