Hello,

Does anyone have any experience of the various 'chipped' blue ray players that are available. I have seen quite a few which offer multi region DVD playback, which is essential as my collection of disks is a mix, however not so many with multi region BD.

Anyone ?

Cheers

Ben

Ive had a multi region Panny DMP-55 for 6 months, no probs, its great

As I travel a lot on business, I have a big Region 1 DVD and Region A Blueray collection, and it saves me having 2 players or hassle with where I can buy discs

came from here

yeah, its a PITA that Sony decided to go with different regions for BR too ....whereas Toshiba with HD DVD did not ...so if you buy BR cheap in the US or Far East they probably wont play on your UK player

...its not just a simple software hack anymore either, but requires some soldering

...good old Sony eh, and their new "standard" frown

as far as i'm aware there is no multiregion BR - some studios release the discs without region coding, most of the international BR sales sites will list whether they are region free or not.

The players will play mutli-region dvd if you buy the right one but the BR is down to the disc coding.

You can get multiregion blueray players, although these have to be modified by adding an extra chip, like in the early days of multiregion DVD.

its about £75 ish to chip one, by a firm who will give you the 1 year warranty on the product - whether its worth it to you dunno

I am sure it is worth it to me as I also travel a lot so tend to do most of my DVD purchasing in the US, would be handy to be able to do the same for Blueray.

If only they could chip my PS3 it would be perfect....

me too, hence Ive always had multiregion products ...nothing worse than picking up a new movie 3 months before UK release to watch when you get home, then it wont play!

Romford Home Theatre did mine
