I have just taken delivery of a new Pioneer KRP-500A to replace my old 42 inch Pioneer PDP 427XD.

Still exploring all the setup options, but even without tweaking anything, the picture quality of this screen is terrific. My older pioneer was very good, but the new one knocks it for dead.

Are these settings good for a LX5090? scratchchinIn the store I was told the difference between the two was just one cable for the KRP and several hundred pounds from your pocket. I take delivery of LX5090, my birthday pressie to me on Wedenesdayclap, and can live with some spaghetti .cloud9

No, sorry, the settings are for the KRP's only. Your LX5090 is also a brilliant screen but doesn't have a 'Pure' mode and some of the updated electronics in the KRP models. On AV forums you'll also find recommended settings for your panel. smile

Thanks for this - I have been trying a few combinations, but the range of options means it would take days to try most of the permutations. I will try your suggestions.

How do you keep track of all the switching about required depending on the input?

I already have it on on Pure mode - initially it did not look so immediately impressive but it is definitely more subtle, realistic and natural compared to the other modes.

Some non-HD US TV programmes can look a bit too washed-out in Pure mode, but they tend to have rubbish colour range no matter what you do - either washed out or everyone looking orange.

Recommended settings are of only so much use - each person's preference for colour vividness, and room light conditions will dictate a lot of what settings gives them the best PQ.
Any new panel should be advised to be run in with settings ramped down for the first 100-200 hours, then setting it to how they prefer or getting it calibrated professionally.

Agreed.

'Pure' mode on the Pioneer KRP models is very close to ISF calibrated settings and that is why the picture looks a little washed out until the eyes get used to it (in a few days) - as most people are used to a very unnatural, high-contrast picture.

Of course any 'recommended settings' can be tweaked to suit, but as long as 'Pure mode' is used at all times. smile

Pure Cinema mode's effectiveness will largely depend on how the incoming signal is formatted from the source.

The 'Pure mode' in the KRP's is not the same as 'Pure Cinema'. The KRP's also have this mode, but it's not that great - as in most TV's.

I've had my KRP500 (M version) since release date and ignoring the fact it needed a warranty call-out as it completely died its an awesome piece of kit indeed. Excellent picture and the fact it sits close to the wall means its certainly not intrusive in the room. Mine is in Pure with a few tweaked settings but IMO you should set it up to your preference as everyone has their own opinion on these things.

Its a shame Pioneer are out the game now but for me I purchased this to last a good many years so just glad i've got one to enjoy for the future smile
