Flogging an old plasma
Discussion
Have upgraded from 42" to 50" plasma in the living room so need to get rid of the old screen. I am wary of using fleabay with all the paypal chargebacks etc - don't want to get ripped off - and don't have the box it came in anyway so it would have to be a collection anyway
I looked at AVFORUMS But it mostly seems to be newer kit on there. Is there a market for a 6 year old plasma screen (Panasonic TH42PW4B if anyones interested!) or are they just scrapped like CRTs?

In reality its worth very little, you've got several choices:-
Try and flog it (local paper, free-ads, or eBay)
Pass it on to a mate, personally I wouldn't charge him anything outright as if it breaks down after a couple of months, it could be distasterous for your friendship. Alternatively let a mate have it for a curry and a pint for a month for a year, that way if it packs up after 3 months it's only cost him 3 curries and pints!
Use it yourself somehwere else in the house (as Plotloss suggests)
I had a friend in the same situation with a 37" Plasma T that cost him £6K when it was new, in the end he let it go to a mate for the cost of a meal out

Keep it!
I have the 50 inch version of that Panny, maybe even the generation immediately before.
When these guys were new they were about £6000 and £9000 retail. They have a picture quality to match with electronics superior than screens knocked out for a few hundred quid today.
My 50 inch Panny I think is now 7 years old, and of course not HD compatible despite having more than enough pixels, but I have not seen a better screen for SD. It is noticably better than the screen I replaced it with.
Mine is still going strong. Keep it for a second screen for the bedroom. What you will get for it second hand will just not do it justice.

It won't. I've had mine about 6 years, with not even a blip or suggestion of mis-behaving. Over on the Porsche forum, you'll find that most of the 993 beards are running these. The 852 x 480 configuration is deemed quite sufficient to those that sport smeared glasses....... lonny said:

So advertise it as "cash on collection" then.lonny said:

Yes, you'll probably get £150-£200 for it. You probably paid a lot more for it when it was new, but you have to bear in mind how cheap plasma TVs have become in the last few years.Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
