I bought the cables that I need to connect my new TV to my surround sound system as per my earlier thread, but now I have another problem… When the surround sound system is on the pictures are slightly out of sync with the sound. If I turn the volume up on the TV so I’m hearing sound from the TV’s speakers and from the surround sound system there is a noticeable echo, so I guess the sound is taking a short amount of time to travel from the TV to the amp via the digital optical cable that connects the two, hence the loss of sync. Does anyone know what the solution is?

Sounds like you need to adjust the delay time for the SS set-up you have.
Increasing the delay would restore lip-sync.

I had this problem and doing a bit of research it seemed to be related to who my box was made by. Sky have had problems with syncing on the boxes made by Pace. I complained bitterly and they sent me a box that had been made by LG or samsung and I have never had the issue since.

Sky does suffer from sync issues, i would be suprised if the TV's own tuner was out of sync as modern screens seem to be a hell of alot faster than they used to be especially the sony's. If it is a sky only issue then try running your optical from the sky box and not the TV (it should be that way anyways to get 5.1 from your movie channels).
The last itme i came across that problem was with one of those Pioneer Kuro thigies and a Bose V20, the issue was never resolved to the customers satisfaction, syc was out on some channels but not all.
