Or Rather, with 1900x1080 Resolution?

Basically - in my room sits a 28" CRT Television, through which my Humax 9200 plays and a 17" LCD monitor, through which my PC plays.

They are, quite literally, next to each other. This, of course is stupid.

So I want to replace them with one display. This is harder than it looks.

It seems, the best compromise would be for a 26" 1080p LCD tv. Any bigger, it becomes difficult to use as a PC display. Any smaller, it will be rubbish for watching films on lying at the end of my bed.
It needs to be 1080p so the resolution is acceptable for uses as a Pc monitor.

Who makes a good one? I dont have a huge amount of money to spend.

I dont want a monitor, I want a TV! That Dell is about £700. A 26" TV is about 2-300 pounds. And if I can get one that will do 1080p (AKA 1900*1080 resolution) then that is enough for me to use as a PC monitor.

Plus a TV will have a Scart input - This is what is needed for me to use my Humax.

The other issue is TVs have a 16:9 aspect ratio while monitors are 16:10 so everybody looks a little taller.

We've been using these:

Not a TV but very good. There are some 24" 16:9 1080P monitors about so those panels are bound to be making their way into TVs.

At 22" you really have to look very closely to tell between 720P and 1080P

The latest issue of Personal Computer World (June 2009) has done a group test on 5 monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080. Unfortunately all are 22".

One thing mentioned in the article, and I have seen before, is that there will be a lot more monitors coming onto the market with that resolution. It will be cheaper to make monitors with the same resolution as TVs as the panels can be cut at the same time so the unit cost will be reduced.

I have an LG 22" 1080p TV/Monitor for the bedroom. A little bit small for you maybe but a bargain at less than £200. They seem to do a 26" version too:

To notice any difference at all of 1080p on a 26" set you'll need to be closer than 5ft, ideally 3.5ft from it.

He wants to use it as a PC monitor too though. The dot pitch on a 26" will actually be a bit chunky at 1920x1080.

My 24" PC monitor is 1920X1200 and could easily be bigger without looking chunky.

Actually my 32" LCD TV connected to my TV doesn't look bad at 1366*768 when connected to a PC but maybe that's my eyes.

I've tried them out. a 32" is a bit too big for sitting right up in front of (ie, a desks width away).

26 or 27" seemed perfectly useable for Pc use.

Mackie - that one is top of the list so far, especially as it is a proper 16:9 rather than 16:10 like many at this size.

Have you tried it as a PC monitor? Whats the picture like?

The 22" version I have is fine, my only problem really is the uniformity of the back light (I've not seen many LCDs without this problem to some degree) but it's only really noticeable when displaying very dark images. It has very good brightness and contrast compared to my old Hyundai 19" LCD monitor. With the connectivity it has (2x scart, 2x HDMI plus component, DVI and VGA) I don't think there's anything for similar money to touch it.
