Does anyone have any of these little gadgets that send the satellite channels to a different tv in the house particulary the ones that can repeat the remote signal? Are thy any good? Any one got any recommendations?

No product specific experience but I once tried a 2.4GHz sender from Maplin and it would not work alongside my wireless router and Xbox360. Xbox's are constantly sending out a scanning signal that picks up the request from the handset to switch on; this buggers the signal. It would only work if the router and Xbox were off. Took it back for a refund.

You can get round interference problems by getting a 5.8Ghz unit instead. That should be OK although I never bothered in the end.

I think it's worth buying one from a physical shop to see if it works OK, if not you can take it back.

We bought mid range 2.4GHz ones from Maplin and we are suffering from interferance so might try turning off the router and see what happens, if that fails will try the 5.2GHz ones and see if that helps.

Thanks!

I bought one from Robert Dyas a couple of months back. I was cynical so didn't want to spend too much. Anyway we have the Sky box in lounge and can now watch it in the bedroom above it. The picture is fine, although the colours could do with adjusting a bit, and the remote works. Sometimes get a bit of interference if you are walking about near the TV in the bedroom.

All in all, it is certainly good enough, the more expensive ones might be better!

Ours goes through the aerial cables - a magic-eye - powered by the sky box via the aerial cabling.
Have two, both work great, operating the sky+ downstairs no problem. Unobtrusive, plus you can really p ss off the other half from the other end of the house while she's trying to play back Corrie on sky+ smile Less than a tenner each.
The transmitter type ones may have improved now, but we had one a while back (over 5 years ago) and the picture was pants.

Thanks for your replys. We have a dreambox rather than a skybox as we run a motorised dish through it so those magic eye things don't work. We have a cheapish (£60) set of 2.8 Ghz senders at the moment but the picture is pants and suffers from interferance from something which drives us mad! Not sure whether a set of 5.6Ghz which might not suffer as badly.

Any reason why you are trying to pipe AV around the place and not just installing a second satellite receiver?

I've tried both 2.4 and 5Ghz models and to be honest both would only possibly be of use as a doorstop!

5m through one wall and they didn't want to know, 5m line of sight and the signal would go if you walked between the units. The only thing it seemed to be vaguely ok on was straight up through a wooden floor.

In summary, find a way to run a cable, it's the only way you're going to get a good reliable picture.

Although if you are going to give it a try, buy it from Maplins - they took mine back no questions asked and I got the impression it wasn't the first time.

I have had 2 or 3 sets of the £30-50ish 2.8ghz ones and they have all been similar, slightly snowy picture, odd bit of fuzz appearing in the sound here and there, but the biggest problems are WiFi, baby monitors and microwaves. Wifi causes that constant 'modem' lines to appear and any microwave operating within about 30-40meters will completely obliterate the picture! That means your neighbours wifi and microwaves interfere as well...

I haven't tried a 'branded' one like Sony or Phillips but would hope they would be slightly better?

Any updates on this topic...?

New conservatory and TV - I would like to pipe in Sky TV. Don't want wires through the nice new wall etc etc.

Recommendations please.

TIA

All the wireless senders are essentially crap.
