Guys,
Just starting to sort out installing a new lcd tv on the wall, would like to duct the cables in the wall and fit the dvd/skyHD box elsewhere.
Basically was going to run two HDMI cables through the ducting, one for the sky and the other for the dvd, do you think this is all that is required, or have i missed something.
Thanx,
Steve.

Two HDMI should do it, you might want to sling a few runs of coax in and a bit of Cat5e for full belt and braces.

Wasn't sure about co-ax, sometimes we lose our sat signal due to bad weather, ( we live high up and exposed ), but seeing as the digital age is creeping up, I would need to install a different arial as well, maybe just sling some in there for the sake of it.
As for gaming, don't really go in for much of that any more, can always connect with flying leads if someone visits and we get the wi-fit out.
I've already fitted a mains socket just behind where the tv will be.
Steve.

Just wondering about the hdmi cables, they will be about 6 metres long, is there a lot of difference in quality, and does it make that much difference, also the co-ax, any particular one that people use, or is it more to do with the connections.
Thanx,
Steve.

CT100 coax, put a few runs in, it can be used for various things AV.

At 6m you're going to want to go for a good HDMI lead, not as cheap as you can findas despite what luddites may tell you there is a difference between grades of HDMI at this length. Digital isnt just digital, that is a complete fallacy.

make sure the hdmi cable says its 1.3b compliant at least. take a coax for digital terrestial take a cat5 for later infrared control from a system like RTI or whatever and also take a stereo audio cable decent quality for the return feed output from the TV so you can have the terrer feed back into your hi fi.
depending on the screen you have i would also take a 25pin VGA cable if the unit has such an input then you can hang your PC on it. i would also take a three core coax RGB cable to it as well in case you have older devices oh and also take a straight composite video cable into one of the standard av inputs so you have something to hook up things like cameras etc.
oh and if you can run the power up the wall about 100mm away from the rest of it all.

there you go. job done.

Normally i install the following cables,
hdmi x2
scart x1
rf x1 (unless im thinking maybe freesat then x2)
optical x1
and a 4 core screened as an emergency OMG i forgot a cable, cable wink

The HDMI's are for all of the modern stuff,
Scart for an SD sky/cable box or Wii or other such basic video device.
Rf for freeview
Optical for digital return to a home theatre amp (most modern panels use an optical now)
4 core screend can do lots of things depending on what ends you fit to it, it can do analogue audio for an older amp, S-video, Composite video + audio, component video, you know that kind of stuff.

I would also recomment some cat 5 (or at lease a made up ethernet cable) for this internet TV thing that seems to be making an apperance. And maybe a VGA if you thing you would need it.
