...that through my modest system it knocks the socks off the experience you get in the cinema. The sound is crystal clear and the picture image is simply stunning.

Set up is an Onkyo SR875 reciever with Definitiive Technology Mythos Ones for the main speakers, Fives for the surrounds, a Three for the centre and a SuperCube II sub - Sony Bravia V Series 40" and a Samsung BD-P1500 BR player.

Here's an old pic without the BR player, had just gone in so ignore the clutter and the walls are not that colour in real life!

Here, have one of these: paperbag (so that you can prepare for the onslaught of having the system in the corner)

Still, I fully agree about Blu-Ray'd Wall.E on a 5.1 system. It's becoming one of my favourites with each viewing.

After 3 months of waiting for its release, my Event Horizon BluRay was delivered yesterday and we watched it last night on our similar system (Panny42/Yamaha/MA). Fantastic, and even more audio/visual detail for the in-your-face scary bits. It really is impressive; highly recommended.

I know - no other option I'm afraid for now - smallish apartment and it's a joint lounge and dining room. The only wall it could go against has large glass doors opposite going to a balcony and the sun shines directly in all afternoon. Still sounds brilliant as it is.

Hopefully moving soon so will be able to have it in a seperate room far better suited.

Probably not the best idea having a lamp on your sub?

Hmmmmm - plenty of explaining I have to do with this image - it was on there for a day before I could find a better place for it.

Bugger it! I'll take another picture later laugh

To be fair, the system is too much for the living space as it is but I wanted something powerfull enough for when we move.

We've only just picked up a setup - 42" LG Plasma and a PS3. Only managed to pick up a couple of movies so far - Bedtime stories for the kids and Quantum of Solace for us. Watched QoS last night - oh my effing god, even with the built in speakers the sound was good, and the picture was utterly stunning.

I need a Pixar movie to pipe through it though - the other half and her daughter don't like Wall-E though. Cannot even begin to figure out why, the film is excellent on every possible level.

Will desparately need some external speakers though, going to have to be sat/sub setup as those lovely looking "pencil style" speakers would be pulled down by our baby, who's about to start crawling and pulling himself up on everything ....

Does a film in BR make it a better film, I hear people saying get this get that (which are essentially st films, 300 to name but one) why does BR make them worth watching over and over?

I watched Wall-e once, I will never watch it again, yet it sounds like some have watched it over and over? Where does a film stop becoming a film and turn into the cinema version of 3Dmark?

I think for something like Wall.E is that the fine details jump out at you, the cleverness of the animation etc... that you simply don't see in standard definition. What I liked about watching it the 2nd time is that I could actively look around the picture without focusing on the main characters or worrying about the story.

Not sure that it would work with a 'human' film.

Also, the HD Dolby sound quality through a good system is simply stunning - makes a huge difference to a film.

Blu-Ray and HD Surround Audio simply add to the pleasure of a film, giving more depth - you get more immersed into it, and therefore feel more sensually involved. The film itself (i.e. the storyline and acting) is no better, but the overall experience can be much better.

Don't get any Blu-Ray just because it's Blu-Ray. Get a very good film which has been well transposed to Blu-Ray.

I tend to rent from Love Film (same cost for DVD or Blu-Ray) and when I see a true "keeper", I'll buy it.

I see your point, but from that other thread it seemed people were asking what the best BR's were.

Well to me that is a stupid question, a st film is still a st film in ultra HD. As one poster found out, planet earth is still boring in HD as it is in sd if you don't like nature programs...

For a fabulous film on Blu-Ray, try Pixar's Cars. Outstanding.
