I have a philips LCD tv Model 23PF4321.

When plugging something in I rested it on something without noticing and now the screen has a "crack" in it. Well not the actual screen but the LCD (if that makes sense).

For the insurance I need to get two estimates for repair. Can anyone recommend somewhere? If need be I am in York to take it to a shop. But as a rough estimate it will need a screen replacing.

This is a very cleaver ploy used by the insurance companies to put you off claiming, they know how difficult it is to get quotes, especially written quotes. They hope you will give up trying and just buy a new one.

You could try local independent TV shops, or look in the yellow pages?

Does your household insurance policy not cover accidental damage? You are just as well buying a new set with the manufacturers warranty. LG, who supply the panels to Phillips [JV] are continually changing and dropping panels so you may well find that it will be impossible to replace the TFT.

This is my household insurance.

I just called and said I am struggling to get a quote for a repair.

He said for a broken screen I can get a price for a replacement.

Well why didn't he say that yesterday. They certainly like to make things damn hard.

Does anyone know if I can ask "derestrictor"?

As it says on his profile that he is in the USA, or is this the wrong member?

I thought that when I was looking to buy a new TV but don't panic it would seem that he is UK based; and a more helpful and knowledgeable person you couldn't wish to find!
