Hi, i'm looking to replace my 37 toshiba lcd with a 50 inch plasma. I have 1k which will have to include a stand with. Obviously i'm looking for the best plasma i can. Can anyone recommend one to me for that price. I've heard good reports about the panasonic but unsure which model. Also would like a matching stand if possible. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

if you follow the couple of reviews of this set then you'll dismiss this set
but do this at your peril!

Because it's a decent old fashioned proper TV

Panasonic TX-P50X10 which can be had for well under £850 leaving £150 for a stand

Now it isn't full HD (1080p) but so what! it's PQ with everything but Blu-Ray is excellent
and only when you are less than 6 feet from it does it betray the lower resolution
with Blu-Ray. But from it's optimum Veiwing of between 10-12 feet it will be nothing
short of excellent.

Let's see if Plotloss joins this thread because i'm sure he'll agree

I advise to go for a 1080p screen but in this instance the a good quality HD Ready screen will give a better all round picture than a budget 1080p model. The Panasonic is a very good screen and should deliver excellent pictures for the money. There is plenty of choice out there for racks. I would suggest you support your local independant if you can but if budget forces you to the web the Icon Excel 4250 on Amazon is a real steal at less than £50.

Totally with Gandalf on this - budgetary constraints or not, if the predominant use of the TV will be broadcast TV (HD and SD), and more DVD than BR movies, and you'll be sitting at the typical domestic norm of 10ft, then you have no need to worry about the native resolution being 1080, as you'll never appreciate the difference one provides.
So, drop the dime in Der's audio and video delight emporium, and wait like a giddy child on Xmas Eve for Santa to make his annual visit.

Thanks for the advice. I have seen the panny 50 inch set on laskys.com for £766 which seems like an excellent deal. Also seen an lg plasma can't remember the model at the min for 800 with stand and speakers inc. Am i best staying with a panny set as a few people have said lg have resolution problems.

I would stick with the Panasonic if I were you.

Consider service and warranty.

Well the panny plasma is 759 on digital direct with a 3 year warranty so i think thats an excellent deal. I should have explained a bit more earlier thats its used as a family tv with a ps3.. So i think for that price i'll have to go for it.

I have a panny and an LG and the panny is superior in every way... i only bought the LG as a cheap 2nd tv for the bedroom... within your budget panasonic is the way to go
