This is two questions in one post:

1. What are the benefits of having a "clean" power supply feeding your AV equipment. Does it offer noticible benefits and do you need to take a seperate feed from (or before) the fuse box or will something like this suffice:

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/996/...

2. Is it worth spending that bit extra on cabling? I want to install some decent satelite speakers in my new house (Kef or Anthony Gallo Micros) so because of the relatively low power needed to drive these would I really notice a difference between using basic wiring (like this (http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=GALE-SYMPHONY-100) or something far more expensive. Same goes for the HDMI cable, as the data is sent digitally surely the reciever gets either a 1 or a 0 and so the picture/sound will be identical. As long as the cable is good enough to get the data to the destination what benefit will more expensive cabling have?

I apologise if these seem like stupid questions but I'd really like to know people experiences and im sure there are some AV professionals who can also shed some light.

Thanks

Tycho

IMHO most Monster stuff is high margin un-needed stuff. I believe that you can spend up to a certain point and then you are paying for hype.

I do stand to be corrected though.

Better power supply and better cabling will make a difference. Technically.

However whether you can see or hear it comes down to proportionality.

For example on £100 speakers you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between budget cables.

On £6000 speakers, a £600 cable is a proportional investment to get the best from what you have already spent.

The same is true with power. On a system costing a few hundred quid, I would doubt that anyone could tell the difference if you used a £50 trick power supply or not.

That said spending £1000 on a conditioner and cabling on £10,000 of sources and amps will certainly get you 'value'.

With HDMI if the cable is less than 5m any cheap branded cable will get you a good result identical to a £200 cable.
