I want some hifi kit for my living room. I would like something that will play CDs, has a DAB radio, and has the right holes to stick in (ooer missus) my portable MP3 player (not ipod) and a USB memory stick. I have a decent DVD player already so it's just for audio.

I have say up to a grand to spend for the whole lot, including speakers. I don't want loads of big boxes everywhere to be honest.

I originally thought of a decent one-box solution, something like an Arcam Solo Mini ( http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Arcam-Solo-Mini/ ) and decent c.£300 speakers. However I'm no hifi expert so is there something else I should be looking at? Would I be better off getting a Denon micro system for half the price and saving my hard-earned?

Thanks in advance folks!

If you don't want loads of big boxes, the Solo Mini is probably the best bet for that budget. The Denon DM37 and Cambridge Audio One are quite a bit cheaper and probably worth a listen along with the Arcam to see if you think the extra money is worth it. Certainly some Richer Sounds branches stock all three (indeed they are the only retailer for Cambridge Audio) and will be willing to demonstrate them even if some of their stores aren't ideally set-up for this.

Personally, I like Arcam gear, but it'll be your ears listening to it and your wallet paying for it, so give it a try first.

Thanks guys - it sounds like I was on the right lines for once!

I'll give the kit mentioned a good listen.
