Looking for a bit of advice please. I have a Sony TV which is about 6 years old. Having switched it on today, a corner of the screen is showing strange colours which change depending on the background. Any thoughts as to what is likely to be the problem or is it the early signs of its imminent demise?

Crt? Most likely a knackered degaussing thermister.

Is a crt a non flat screen? If so, then yes. So, is it something that can be repaired easily or do I need to start researching new TVs?

leave the set unplugged overnight so all the caps discharge
then plug it in and switch it on the set will automatically
de-gauss and all should be well (hopefully) but if not
throw that antique away and buy a nice flat panel!!!!!!!!

It does sound like a purity error to me. Have you been putting speakers or anything big and metallic next to it?

No, nothing at all has changed. However it does appear to have cured itself having been unplugged for 15 hours or so. Thanks.
