I have only ever bought my hifi brand new over the years. Yet whenever I sold on a piece of equipment it was still box fresh and impossible to tell it was ever used. Despite the fact I play music for hours every night.

Now recently I have browsed a few second hand hifi adverts as I may be putting a second system in a spare room. Thinking the credit crunch may have thrown up a few solid deals on nearly new-ish equipment.

Yet everything I have seen so far has issues. Typically phrases such as "good condition" translate into; dented corner, scratches on all surfaces and a plinth half hanging off. This really beggars the question, what on earth do these imbeciles consider to be "poor condition"?! So how on earth do these Orc's manage to damage their kit? Do they get in from a day at work and start a nail gun fight around the house? Or perhaps they get drunk and see how far they can throw a hifi separate out the window. Goodness knows what their house must look like inside. It must resemble the mess after a gang of monkeys have thrown their own st around.

How hard can it be to place a piece of equipment on a shelf, then leave it well alone, aside from pressing the play button once in a while. Clearly I'm expecting too much.

Back to buying new equipment then...

I must have bought 30-40 s/h hi-fi items in the last few years, and only two of them weren't up to scratch:-

A Rotel MultiChannel amplifier that had a dent on the rear corner and a bent speaker output

and

A QED SA240 Amplifier which worked for 10mins and then blew up, smoke out the back, hardly the sellers fault.

Some of the bits of kit I've bought have been in amazing condition, far better than I expected.

I've bought from eBay, HiFiWigWam, Pink Fish Media, hififorsale and the Meridian Forum

Maybe you have just been unlucky, I tend to collect high value items > £500, so that I can inspect and check that all is ok, before parting with my hard earned cash.
