We’ve recently moved back with my parents and I would like to make use of our SkyHD box in our room, as my parents already have Sky.

There are already 3 rooms wired with twin inputs feeding 2 Sky+ boxes and a SkyHD box. I’m assuming the dish has an oct LNB, and thus 2 spare outputs.

Our room is a loft room and the dish is just outside, so am I right in thinking that I just need to get a couple of runs of coaxial and connect one end to the LNB, run them under the facia boards and into a wall box on our rooms wall? Get another couple of lengths of coaxial to connect the skyHD box to the wall socket, then phone sky to pair the card and add another multi-room sub (not bothered about HD as there is no room for the projector) to my parents account, and Bobs your uncle, Fanny’s your aunt?

I’ve spoken to sky (when I cancelled my existing account) and they said they wouldn’t fit any extra cabling unless my parents bought another box. I’ve also spoken to a local installer and they quoted me £75.

So is it as easy as it would seem? And if so could someone list the bit’s and connectors I would need?

Cheers smile

Have a look at the satcure site. There is a lot of useful information there. The free eBook "Understanding Sky Digital TV" is worth a download.

If the LNB is indeed an octo version

You'd need two runs of coax from the LNB to the faceplate location.

Two f connectors to attach the wire to the lnb

A twin outlet faceplate and a back box

Another two runs of coax with f connectors on either end

Then a signal cable from the box to the television.

So in total:

6 f connectors, a single backbox and a twin outlet faceplate.

No need to run the phone line, you can bond the box/card via the call centre.

Thanks Plotloss, just had a look at the eBook and Satcure website and you've just to confirmed my understanding, always nice to get confirmation from someone who knows what they're doing thumbup

Although I think I do need the phone line as it'll be on a multiroom sub, but there is a socket near by which I assume I can just split.

So the LNB takes f connectors too?

Cheers

LNB uses F connectors yes, if its a multiroom sub then you'll need the BT line.

Just split the BT wire but if you've got 4 skyboxes and a couple of normal phones you may be up near the REN limit which if exceeded will stop your phones ringing.

Which in turn means you'll need a REN amplifier.
