Hi all...

I've got a 42" LG Plasma and it has small problem. Well, I think so, anyway.

When it nee to display darker colours (and black) it does but with loads of mulit coloured speckles all over the darker areas.

Question is - have I screwed with the settings too much (which I haven't touched) or is it on its way out...

I hope it isn't terminal - I love it!

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like either PSU noise or possibly dodgy cable picking up interference.
(No nothing about plasma BTW but had this on LCD PC screens).

You say you haven't touched the settings, but you are asking if you have messed around with them too much? confused

Does this occur on all sources, terrestrial TV, DVD, Sky etc?

It does it on all, though it's worst with the PS3 (probably because there's more black in Fallout 3).

i've seen exactly this on lg 42" plasmas on no less than 3 screen - all are the last sd models pre the hd ready series (3/4 years ago or there abouts)so i'd say it's a known fault. Is your a similar age or newer??

It's 3/4 years old, I can't give a model number off the top of my head.
It's got an HDMI port (I'm useless with this kind of stuff), so it does HD (with the PS3 + HDMI).

But it's not just me then? HUZZAH!
Who should I call? (Other than the Ghostbusters)

Are the speckles all different shades of black, or rainbow coloured.

If it is the former, this is an issue with a lot of digital sources, it is difficult to shade and graduate dark colours. You can improve this with the settings by turning down the brightness.

If you have kids, or even worse an 'other half' they may have messed with the settings to get Corrie a bit brighter.

If you have a DVD with the THX test on it like Star Wars there are some really useful test cards to help you set the colours, contrast and brightness on your TV to the 'standard'.

TBH mate the others i know of were deemed not worth the hassle and relegated to bedroom tv's... one guy had it looked at and they thought it was a digitiser board issue or something similar - memory not as good as it used to be... i'd still have it looked at as the others weren't hdmi equipped so could be a different problem or a shared part that has the issue - start with lg customer services to find out if it's a know issue or go onto www.avforums.com very helpful crowd over there and lots of av retailers who will help

I have exactly the same problem on my 42" LG Plasma. But its only red dots I get, and usually only VIA my PS3 (HDMI port)

Any ideas?

Had the same on my old Hitachi. Red speckles on dark areas, I gave it away in the end as it wasn't worth fixing due to age and value and is perfectly acceptable to female eyes wink

I have a 42" LG with the same problem. A colleague of mine is an ex-repair man and tells me its a very common problem with LG's. Apparently it is a high output voltage on the power supply and it is adjustable. He's been trying to find the service data for me with more info on it.

Some dithering is normal and is noticeable close up but I assume this is obvious at normal viewing distances?
