As someone is selling on eBay that, as he said there is no subscription to it if use for Free to air (like Freesat from Sky). Is this possible to use the box without paying monthly cost?

I refuse to pay monthly charge to Sky but like the feature of HD and recorder as well.

Yes, you can use it for sky free view, with a sky free view card. ( £20 from syk Free sat )BUT, you won't be able to use either the recorder or the HD without the sky subs

My understanding is the Sky+ subscription gives you the functionality to select programmes from the EPG to record and select multiple recording (serials). A Sky+ HD box will not pick up the Freesat EPG.

I'm not sure if you can set up recording using channel and time information like a traditional VCR.

So that mean i can't use the recorder if I don't pay monthly subscription ??? that is one big rip off.

That is the case. You would also need two feeds to the box for the recorder
