Interesting that they show the TV in a room which looks like it is in an apartment.

How do you get a half tonne TV up the stairs? smile

How on Earth does it weigh 500kg? A 50" TV weighs around 40-50kg, so how come a panel with four times the area weighs ten times as much? That is ridiculous.

With the Panny we're not allowed to sell one without a structural engineer performing a survey of the mounting location.

If you go for the Panny on a pedestal, the pedestal on its own is 108kgs.

They've got a 150" coming later this year.

Doesn't quite work like that, the bigger something is, the bigger the supporting structure needed to support it.

Think of it like this - make a mosquito the size of an elephant and it's comparitively thin legs would collapse under the weight. Likewise, make an elephant the size of a mosquito and it's ridiculously large legs would be a hinderance!

Hmm, I understand the principle, but that's millions of times difference in size, not four times.

There's a huge piece of anti reflex coated glass on the front, which in it's own right is very heavy. Add in the mechanics to lift and turn the screen and it soon adds up.

I think the point the weight hypothesisers are trying to make is that when you increase size you don't just increase the weight by multiplication.

After a certain point, you have to then start putting in further structural supports. After that, you have to increase the support further just to cover the weight of the supports themselves.

That is the mosquito and elephant analogy.

Put a better way, if you want to multiply up the weight of a Fiesta to give the internal space of a Hummer, it is not just the weight of the bodywork, you also have to upgrade the axles to cover the weight, and bigger wheels and tyres, and finally a huge engine just to get the weight to move, adding even more weight...

Looks good but I would opt for a projector at that size - at least you can easily move it!

"It will be available officially from July 2009 and cost around 100.000 Euro + VAT."

Right. I'll have two then...

Or just buy the Panasonic 103" which is the B&O is based on for a lot less.

£34k+VAT

Anyone who buys B&O stuff is insane.
Probably just as insane as anyone who is going to spend £34k plus VAT on a TV! smile

B&O is great if you have money to burn. Otherwise there is always a better option, usually 10.

There is a place in Mayfair that has two of them in it and I've heard of a private boat which has five onboard.

That doesn't surprise me!

If only my family lived in the desert and discovered nasty black goo oozing from it 50 years ago, I would pave my drive with them! smile

Agreed. In my yoof I worked for a short time in a 'high end' HiFi shop which sold B&O stuff. Most of it was re-badged Philips stuff with fancy (& shoddy) plastic casing which often cracked & broke when assembled. 1 in 6 of their tellies went back after being broken in the shop.
