My current System Consists of a Yamaha Amp and DVD player (amp is a Yam AX750SE). I have recently purchased a Denon AVR3300 (Used for the bedroom). But after installing it with some of my older kit i found it actually sounded better than my system in the living room.
So as a result i now have a 9 year old amp in my living room which sound better and has replace my 5 year old AX750SE.
But i would have thought the newer kit would have sounded alot better than older generation stuff? All conenctions were identical speakers identical.

Well there you go then, the Denon was twice as much.
Sure the Yamaha will have newer processing, DD/ DTS maybe 6.1 or 7.1 support, video upscalling or upconversion, but the power amps will be very similar to what was in a £500 amp from years before it (maybe with a bit more power).
Where as the Denon will have higher quality components where it matters, better deigned power supply/s and a better constructed/ designed chassis and probably a more isolated, higher quality pre-amp section.
Better Bells and Whistles vs quality electronics.

Ok, But i would have thought the better compenents would have been passed down to lower models. But then maybe not.. Better processing but just the same poor quality Amp and Transformers.
It does weigh considerably more aswell..
MAny Thanks
The old kit will always do the job.It does weigh considerably more aswell..
MAny Thanks
If you have a ten year old Ferrari, are you going to swop that for a new Fiesta because it has a fancy push button starter and fancy dashboard lights?

But then again being cynical it would just be another way of the company making a larger profit..
What often happens is gear is built to a price point.
Entry level, intermediate, top end, ultra top end etc.
Along with the technological upgrades, the 'usual' stuff like the power circuits, connections, transformers etc still cost money and are built to that price point.
For example, I bought a plasma screen which was virtually unused. It was the very first 50 inch Panasonic and it retailled at £14,000.
Even today, and 7 years on I have not seen a plasma screen which in standard definition has the same quality and depth of picture. I am sure that they can build the screen cheaper, but all the rest of the electronics was build for an ultra high end unit, and even today that cannot be matched due to cost at the price points we expect for a plasma screen today.
