Annoying LG LCD problem

I haven't done much in the way of troubleshooting, but it seems that when i put the tv into standby when the AV1 input is selected. The next time i bring it back to life it flicks on, i get sound through optical but i don't get a back light. Also the remote stops working, as well as the buttons on the set.

The only way to resolve the problem is to unplug from the mains and then plug it back in, the TV will then come on fine and work.

I don't seem to be able to re-create this problem when the TV is put into standby whilst the RGB input is selected.

The set is about 3 years old now so well out of warranty.
