I have tried searching for the answers on this formum, and am now even more confused after reading numerous threads!!

Some questions:

1. I sit approx 9ft from the TV - will 50" be too big?

2. Which Panasonic Plasma do I want?
TH-50PZ80B?
TH-50PZ81B?
And what about the new models shown on the Panasonic website, TX-P50X10 and TX-P50G10?

1. Sit 9ft from one in a showroom :-)
2. Compare here

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/287749/modul...

I'd dump the TX-P50X10 it is not full hd, the others are full HD
The TX-P50G10 is the new model , with a new display panel

But... What do you want to do with it? do you need freesat HD??

To be honest its pretty much only for watching Blu Ray movies, XBOX360. I don't have Sky HD as don't watch an awful lot of TV.

Having just seen the upcoming Panasonic uber sets, I think we're in for a treat.

Whether or not the 'infinite black' processing, 600Hz scanning or THX tie up will see the Kuro finally equalled or overtaken, we shall see, following side by side analysis but as it is, stand alone, they look mighty impressive all the same.

{Then again, even last night's several millionth serving of Gladiator on 'mere' superbit DVD had me cooing in the direction of even outdated Pioneer know how. Ach! bangheadhehe}

Is this the TX-P50G10 shown on their website, or is there a newer model coming out?

While I'm sure the the new Panasonics will be superb I don't think they'll
Match the Kuro this year. Maybe with the 2010 year sets
So my advise is to dig deep take a deep breathe max the card
And buy the Pioneer

Total Scam site, They only take Western Union money transfers for the first transaction

Remember if it's looks too good to be true it usually is.

Those sets have just arrived in the shops over here and as DeR rightly points out, they are very very capable indeed.

The locals won't let you do a side by side comparison as the Pioneer and Panasonic brands are big enough to have their own areas. Things are not helped with the Pioneer screens not showing normal BR content or broadcast material but only the special Pioneer BR disk with fish tanks and harp players etc etc. Very nice it is too.

The KRP-500 A or M models are astonishing with that content. Mind you the 500M is Y500,000 (~GBP4k) here, so it should be!

My preference is still for the Pioneer but I haven't seen both screens playing the same stuff...

Bl**dy confusing - and the rugby finishing at 4.30 in the morning is doing wonders for my beer consumption!

Things have moved a bit since we last spoke: I have found a couple of shippers that can get me a google box out here too. One moves houses, one moves kit for film studios! Both have detailed queries in with their insurance co's about the "dead on arrival" scenario so hopefully I can go shopping soon!

Hope business is bearing up for you!

Well after much debate and changing my mind at least 100 times I ended up getting the Pioneer LX5090. Managed to get one for £1799 which I was pleased about in light of the recent price increases.

Only niggle in my mind is I should have got the KRP-500A - reading about the 'pure' mode in the reviews really made me want to go for that model, couldn't justify the additional £800 premium though. Anybody know if there really is much in it between the two models performance wise?

The tuner is slightly better and it copes with signals very slightly better.

Film and chassis are the same, the improvements have come from a different board layout due to the engineering involved in the media box. Complete fluke, everyone (including Pioneer) expected the performance to be the same.

Whether its worth the premium is impossible to say as everyone's concept of value differs, there is a small technical improvement but either option is probably the best picture of any set that has been produced and will be produced probably until 2011 at the earliest.
