Anyone own one of these? PArticularly interested in the sound quality which I know partly relates to bit rates etc.

Ta. . .

I have one, purchased this week, I have several other Squeezebox devices in the house. I only stream uncompressed files (WAV/FLAC) and for what it is, I reckon the sound quality is pretty good, sure it's not as good as my other systems, but it cost a fraction (or some of them). I wouldn't use it as my primary listening source but it's fine on a shelf in my office.

It's also smaller than I first thought and surprisingly heavy.

you may also want to consider the Roku Soundbridge Radio.

I have one in the house and its a pretty clever little machine allowing you to access your Itunes library (stable)or WMP Library (not so stable) wirelessy much like the Boom. The sound quality is very good for such a small device and i would recommend one.

This seems to be a fairly unsaturated market which is disappointing as i would like something with more kick to annoy the neighbours.

I have had a Boom for about 5 months - and I really like it. It's in the kitchen and the remote (having a magnet in it) can be stuck on the fridge or cooker hood so it's very convenient.

To be fair, unless you're interested in having more Squeezeboxes round the house, I doubt the Boom has much purpose. You need to run Squeezecentre on a server of some sort to play your music through it; doing this also means you can use any of the BBC iPlayer play again streams, which I think is unique amongst internet radios.

Sound quality is fine - it's a bit boomy (ironic) if you stick it in a corner on a box of some sort which resonates, but it is easy enough to tone that down.

Cooltopia have been doing them at £169, if you're keen.

Thanks guys. I am tempted as eBuyer are selling at £150 delivered. I wil buy something that streams my own collection but out of Internet Radio and DAB which would you choose?

No - Roberts WM201 can do this too.

Internet radio or DAB? Internet radio every time due to the sheer amount that is on offer. And I would be saying that if I was back at home in the UK too.

I agree - this market has not got much choice in at the moment which is frustrating.

It's mains only though isn't it? I would like one for down by the pool as the range to my router should be well within limits, but it doesn't have battery option like a normal boom box.

Why not just run an extension lead down to the pool.

It's not really a normal boombox, though - the name's a bit misleading. It's really a Squeezebox which happens to have powered speakers.

Didn't know eBuyer were doing them so cheaply... might get another biggrin

Our apartment is on the 2nd floor and would have to cross the communal pathway. It would be a very long lead and bound to get more than a few comments!

That's the view to the pool from my front room

Nice, I didn't think to look there. I think I may have to get one of these over the Revo Blik.

Does look nice, but it has some niggles, like the alarm being LOUD ALL THE TIME which would annoy me (especially first thing in the morning).

I've just discovered the Roku has an open protocol. This opens up a whole world of stuff for me, like displaying the data from my server-connected weather station, or even piping it through Festival so I can listen to it.

Sorry for the hijack smile

Why are some of you preferring the Roku to the Boom?

I own a Roku and so can only comment on my experience of this product.

Have you had a bad Roku experience?

Seems as though a lot of them just stop working according to the forums which would have put me off buying one in the first place if i had discovered the forum before my purchase.

I have had the Roku for about a year now and so far so good.
