I am looking to spend around GBP600 on a TV.

Whilst initaly it will be used in the lounge for viewing of films (DVD) and usual sky SD stuff, we want to buy another TV, more expensive one, for the lounge in a year or so and use this TV for the Xbox/ Playstation only.

As such I want to keep the spec of this TV directed to the gaming side of things as this is where most its use will be, long term.

The only other thing is that I want the size to be at least 42inches.

So, would I be correct in thinking LCD is better than plasma for gaming?

And which one should I buy?

You should take the budget for this one and some more money and buy a Pioneer 5090 as they wont be around in a year.

Honestly, quality that high in a set will not make a reappearance for a good while when its gone.

We have just finished building our house and unfortunatly have no funds left, it took some convincing to put a tv on the list at all so no chance of streching the budget 3 fold, very sadly!

That's a real shame - I stretched my budget a little to buy a 5090 from Plotloss and it is utterly amazing, and I have re-discovered all my old games on my 360.

I think Plasma as a technology is probably better for games as I think plasmas deal with motion better, but that might be less true with the latest TVs. I'd check out some Panasonic plasmas, as they are supposed to be a good budget alternative to the Pioneer sets.

I've just had an LG 37LG6000 and it's bloody excellent for games. GT5:Prologue looks stunning, and it has no problems keeping up with rapid games like Wipeout HD. On PS3 at least, I can see no difference between this and the various Bravias/Vieras I've seen the games on. Dunno about 360 as I only let well made consumer goods into my house, but I assume it would be the same.

The 42 inch version, which I'm guessing will be the 42LG6000 should be within your budget.
