Freeview - hpw long before HD is available?

Supposedly tightening my belt (although just bought a new HD TV) so not looking to splash out on Sky HD or Freesat etc at the moment...

...Any guesses as to when HD content will be available on Freeview (if at all?)?

I can't, I just can't! As Derestrictor already hypothesised, the missus had a fit when she realised I had gone 50% over budget on the TV....I just gave her some valium and sat her in front of Moulin Rouge, she was fine.

I imaging Freeview HD will only come along after analogue is switched off, freeing up some bandwidth.

There is an article on ukfree.tv, which also implies a new stb will be required. The one built in to your TV may not work.

OFCOM were not going to free up any bandwidth and instead have opted to transmit in DVB-T2 which will require many to replace their STB's. The launch location is the Granada region this year sometime. OFCOM have since indicated that they have found a channel seperate to the standard Freeview Channels that will allow London to go HD in 2010.

Just tell her that Sky are updating the boxes to black to match peoples TVs.

She will be well pleased.
