As seen here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL-40L4000-Widescree...

This seems a very good price for a Sony 1080P set! Does anyone know why it's a lot cheaper than their other 1080P options? Are there any better deals out there for an equivalent TV from Panasonic, Samsung etc?

Actually that's not as cheap as it was. Amazon had it almost £80 cheaper a few weeks ago:

Its a good screen and was supposed to be one step below the KDL-40V4000, same Bravia 2 engine 24fps etc, but the L model lacks digital sound out and has a matt not glossy surround. Other than that, its identical.

I wanted the V model myself and I'm kicking myself for not buying a month ago when it was available for £600. (now back up to near £700)

Sony make Ls available when there is a dearth of everything else.

They're ok but generally only in an emergency.

What's a better TV for the same(ish) price?

JVC's LT-42DR9 will destroy the cheap 40/42s for about £70 more.

Bear in mind stocks are dwindling and prices will increase very soon by 20-30%.
